Broader Impacts

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)

The Tezak lab intentionally seeks to assemble a diverse group. We welcome staff and trainees of any race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation with an open-door policy to encourage and promote inclusivity, open communication, and collaborative learning. We aspire to promote the advancement of science while ensuring its accessibility to all. We are committed to taking steps to accomplish this by actively participating in courses and activities organized by the Office for Institutional Equity and Inclusion, and getting involved in scientific outreach efforts within the community like giving Minority-directed interactive classroom presentations for K-12 schools. Boris passionately believes that a diverse and inclusive academic environment fosters creativity, innovation, and excellence, ultimately benefiting not only the individual but also the entire scientific community and society at large.

Conservation & Outreach

As climate change exerts its influence on ecosystems, understanding how shifting temperatures impact sex ratios and/or fertility in oviparous reptile populations is critical. Our hope, is that the insights gained from our research will not only inform conservation strategies but also serve as a powerful example of the interplay between basic science and environmental stewardship.

In the Tezak lab, we are passionate about scientific outreach and are always looking for opportunities to showcase our research and relevance via “hands on” demonstrations and activities in local workshops, science fairs, and museums. By actively involving diverse communities and promoting STEM education, we aspire to inspire future generations of scientist and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable scientific landscape.
